The Enjoyers Guide Saas Fee in the Winter

Winterwonderland ! This place in winter looks like it’s just came out of a fairy tail!

But it’s very special, not everybody likes it here.. It’s old fashioned, not enough aprés ski, no posh places to go to.. Sometimes overpriced, well hello we are still in Zwitserland. No.., for that you either have to go next door to Zermatt or to Austria! Saas Fee carries way more good things than you might see on the first eye.. A lot of nice people always come back here, it’s not overcrowded, everybody says hello on the streets, if you need anything just ask and everyone will find a way to help you! It’s a magical experience! And like most places finding the good stuff can be hard.. Especially after a day of hiking or snowboarding, you don’t want to end up walking up and down the street.

Sooooo here’s my insiders list for the winter in Saas Fee and how to enjoy it to the fullest!

Apres Ski!

There are enough bars down the road back into the village! Start at High Life Bar, have a drink outside at Rudi’s Bar, at Zur Mühle, Black Bull apres ski bar, Nesti’s and that will definately satisfy the Apres skiër in you!

To enjoy your drink a bit more there is a new bar in town called Pub Wise and offcourse there is the Steinbock bar, Aussie Bar and Popcorn!

Food wise !!

Restaurant Essstube Always surprising dishes and deco!
Arvu stuba delicious food and a Nice bar on the first Floor for an aperitivo.
Restaurant Zur Mühle
Restaurant Zur Schaeferstube Great sunny terrace, Swiss specialties and you can ski in and out from the top of the baby slopes!
Cheese Fondue is tip top at Vieux Chalet & at Arvu Stuba
Walliser Teller is a great meat platter snack to enjoy with friends or family just about everywhere

Bad Weather, Mountain closed ?? always check if Saas Grund and Saas Almagell are also closed 😉

On a bad weather day take a walk to Restaurant Waldhüs Bodmen, the kids can hug some bunnies while you enjoy a tomato fondue there. But if the mountain is still open you can also enjoy a big long lunch at Bergrestaurant Spielboden or the Berghütte Gletschergrotte is everyone favorite!

Relaxing Coffee places in town.. Popcorn & Coffee

Go play micro bowling at the Zum Guten Keller in Haus Lehnhof.

Play darts or pool at the Holzwurm bar.

Have a relaxing Spa day . . There are loads of options 🙂 There is Hotel Saaserhof Wellness where they do an awesome couples massage , one of my favorites is Hotel Schweizerhof Spa, but there is also Hotel Ferien Art and the new Aqua Allalin wellness with a 25m swimming pool and an amazing view on the mountains and forest.

Sledging on the Hannig Mountain, there is a restaurant with big terrace on top of the mountain. The Restaurant has an amazing view of the Allalin mountain and is very easy reachable by cable car. Also if the weather permits it, every Tuesday night sledging!! Eat, drink Schnapps, and Sledge down, Laughs guaranteed!!

Buy your new ski and snowboard stuff at Popcorn, Wild One or super easy at the Cesar Sport right outside Alpin Express Cablecar!

Highlights of the winter season are: Allalin rennen, Ice climbing world cup, Carnaval & the Season End party is a real blast and… it’s fully oké to dress up crazy haha!

The best times to come here..

Oktober Now the Freestyle snowboarders & skiers will show their tricks! And the first fresh snow is falling 🙂
November has the most beautiful fall decor!!
December Come in the beginning of december for your early winter season skiing.
Januari the whole mountain can be yours!
Februari is when it gets very busy, which means good parties.
March is amazing, the sun will shine more and the snow is perfect.
April goes big on the weekends, and during the week its just skiing and sunbathing!

May & June everybody goes on holiday !! Really, the whole town!
Juli is when the summer skiing begins and the mountain hiking start again!
August Enjoy the summer in the mountains, lots of things to do for everyone!
September You can watch all the famous skiers do their training.
