Koh Tao: Divers Paradise and perfect to get your PADI Open water certificate !!
After arriving on the island i had a coffee and breakfast at the Coffee House, while searching for a place to sleep and where I could get my PADI open water diver certificate. I found that Sairee Cottage had the best deal, 5 nights of sleep in your own cottage, with a bathroom, cold water 😉 and a very nice restaurant at the beach! Sairee Cottage Diving
The first afternoon you’ll get theory lessons, next day practice in the swimming pool. Then if you can take your own mask off under water, dare to take your oxygen out and can communicate with your buddy under water, You’re good to go at sea !
Woowwww….. This is pretty scary !!
I got slighty afraid of heights/ afraid of the dept. Your at the deep blue sea, going down, and it’s just super dark all around you, with no idea how deep it is underneath you or how far you can fall. aaahhhhh Luckily my awesome instructor told me to wait patiently, and when we were 5meters down, i could already see the bottom of the ocean, the fish and the beautiful coral. No more being afraid ! From now on just pure joy, enjoy the fish around you, enjoy the beautiful coral and the sense of free floating . This is so addictive !
Tip! If you’re like me and you get seasick take more than one seasick pill! The rougher the sea the more pills you take! When we set to ‘Champion Pinnacle’ the sea was so rough that I was totally green having to enter the water, I almost threw up in my regulator! Luckily you could actually even do this! haha!
I went diving at ‘Light House’ ‘Red Rock’ & ‘Chumphon Pinnacle’ if you get the change, definitely try to go to Chumphon Pinnacle !
Koh Tao is an awesome island, get a map, rent a scooter and discover the island on your own. To get to the John Suwan look out point you have to hike up hill a bit, and it’ll get freaking hot, but the view is definitely worth it ! My secret snorkel spot is ‘Aow Leuk Bay’ there are sunbeds on the beach, it’s not to crowded and you can snorkel all day long! Water in, Water out, Water in, Water out… Living in Paradise!!
To continue in paradise, breakfast on the balkon of Blue Water is nice, you’ll have a beautiful view of the sea and they also have veggie breakfasts 🙂 Restaurant Su Chili is good, and the Massaman Curry is famous. Restaurant Barracuda was good, but waaaayyyy overpriced!! And then…. SAMOSA they probably serve the best food in whole of Thailand! This woman runs this very small restaurant with only a few plastic tables, and cooks every dish fresh and separately which makes it takes a while, but its for sure the best food I had in whole of Asia!!
Happy Diving !
